Upstarts event hosted at the Digital Skills Academy in the Digital Hub.
Senator Fergal Quinn delivered a warm and personal talk about what he considers are essential for all startup businesses. He put it into 4 points, B.E.S.T
B - stands for "Boomerang". The boomerang effect of winning customers over, making them happy and encouraging them to return to your business again. It is not about charging them a lot, it is about giving them a lot of what they want.
E - stands for "Éist le fuaim na habhann agus gheobhfaidh tú breac" - Listen to the sound of the river and you will get your fish. LIsten to your customer and what they are telling you they need. The water in a river changes every day and so does your market.
S - stands for smile. He told a story about a man who worked for him for years and before his retirement he told him that he had always looked forward to going to work, the days always passed by quickly because he enjoyed what he did. This point was to always strive to have a good working environment for yourself and the people working together with you.
T - stands for technology. Particularly appropriate in the context of the UPstarts event. he made the point that there are so many ways to use new technologies that are constantly coming on the market, but one of the most important and effective ways to use it is to apply it to excellent customer service.
BEST - all startups have to believe they are the best. He finished with a story of a meeting he had with a successful businessman who told him "Whether you believe you can, or you believe you can't, you're right"
